I was rejected at the airport in DC for not having a roundtrip ticket or ticket out of Colombia. Turns out this "onward travel" rule is one of those rules that rarely gets enforced but I guess I just got lucky. I've always been told I'm a bit sketchy looking. Oh, well. I've arrived safely and things are great so far. As you can see, I have some pretty epic views of the city skyline from my apartment. Not hating that. I went out last night with a bunch of gringos. Classic. But, it was a really great experience because it reinforced my primary reason for coming to Medéllin: to surround myself with people doing what I wanted to do. As I mentioned in my last vlog, it's been my dream since college to be self-employed and work from anywhere in the world. While I am not yet 100% sure how I will be achieving that goal, I knew one thing: that surrounding myself with people already living my dream would be the quickest way to get me to my goal. Think about it. Let's say your goal is to add 10 lbs of muscle. Do you hang out with your friends who routinely get Seamless plus drunk food on the reg (not that there's anything wrong with that) or do you start hanging out more with your meathead friends who are personal trainers? Bad example? Okay, let's try another. Let's say you recently launched a new business and will soon be going through investment rounds to secure funding. If you're smart, the first thing you'll do is contact your friends or connections who have been there before and get their advice. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. - Jim Rohn You are who you surround yourself with. Plain and simple. Not only does surrounding yourself with these types of people benefit you, but it changes your perception of your lofty goals. Your goals are no longer abstract ideas floating around in your brain, they are living and breathing realities that you interact with on a daily basis. That in itself is incredibly powerful. After only one night, I can confirm this as a fact. So, in a nutshell, that's why I moved to Medéllin. To immerse myself in a culture of like-minds that will benefit me immensely, personally and professionally. Whatever it is you're working towards, ask yourself "Am I surrounding myself with individuals that move me closer to my goals"? It was my first time out, went out to dinner with a bunch of bringos. It was a pretty good time. And then we'll move back a little bit. It was a bit of a struggle to get here because back in DC, when I went to the airport, they were giving me a hard time because I didn't have

any onward travel books, meaning there was no proof of me. There was no proof of the fact that I'd be back country within three months, which is required by immigration. So because I didn't have another ticket booked back to the States or something like that, they actually rejected me from boarding the flight. So I ended up having

to go all the way home and they rebuked me for the next day. So I was in a day late and getting here, but made it safe and sound all good, learned a bit of Spanish on the way over with my driver. But yeah, so last night I went out with a bunch of bringos and they were

friends of my roommate and what was really awesome about it was, and this was the primary reason that I actually came here to medicine. Because I wanted to surround myself with people who were already doing what I wanted to be doing, and that was running my own online business from anywhere in the world. And last night I

met no less than five to six guys who were doing that exact same thing. One guy had a development and design agency in the Philippines. Another guy had a team of 15 contractors based out of Columbus, Ohio, which I think menacing certainly takes the cake compared to Columbus, Ohio. So I don't have any friends in Ohio, so

I don't need to apologize. But anyways, so I basically met all of these guys who were just kind of in my eyes living the dream and running their own businesses from anywhere in the world. They have the ability to travel and spend time doing the things that they love doing. And for me, who really doesn't really know

exactly what I'll be doing in the next few months, it's really eye-opening and inspiring because again, I need to sort out what it is that I'll be working on. And it's very motivating for me to see people who are already doing the things that I want to be doing. Really, that was the primary reason that I moved

here. Obviously, the beautiful women and the amazing food and the very cheap past of living. Those things certainly don't hurt. And I had a bit of a taste of that last night. I also am seeing that I very badly need to run Spanish fast, so I don't stick out like a sore thumb. I can come back and

go, but yeah, so I'll go to Medellin. Hope everyone is well, and I'll talk to you guys soon.
