About this video
Since college, it’s been my dream to be able to run my own business from anywhere in the world. I craved a lifestyle that allowed me to spend my time doing the things I loved most. As you read in my 2015 in Review post, I started a business over the summer, that recently failed. However, it's impossible to view this experience as a failure because of the incredibly valuable lessons I learned that will enable me to become much more successful in the future. Instead of letting this failure get the best of me, the experience left me empowered. I found the value in starting, taking action, and failing fast. The most valuable lesson I learned from this experience was this: I'm the only one capable of achieving my goals. While I was working on growing my business, I was working full-time. As you can imagine, it got pretty stressful at times trying to manage a business while working a full-time schedule. Despite the stress, I was having a hard time at work for a different reason. I was having a tough time because I wasn’t passionate about the work I was doing. Don’t get me wrong - my coworkers and bosses were great and I’m very thankful for them. But the problem was simpIe: I didn’t love what I was doing. For me that’s a major problem. Call me an entitled millennial, but if I’m spending 75% of my waking hours in a job that doesn’t fulfill me at the end of the day, I owe it to myself and to the world to make a change. I understand that I'm 24, I'm young, I need to 'build my resume' and 'put in the time', but fuck that. Each and every single one of us is on a timeline, whether we act like it or not. As mentioned in my 2015 Review, I lost my grandpa and a major role model of mine, Scott Dinsmore, this past year. My brother lost several close friends under the age of 21 to tragic accidents... I don’t know what’s coming for me. I just knew that I needed to take action. I started thinking about my options. Option 1: Look at other jobs. This made the most sense and was the safest. It definitely got a unanimous YES from my parents. But I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror, and look at my goals, and settle for another desk job. It felt like a cop out for me, and a way to just keep delaying what I really wanted to accomplish. Option 2: Quit my job and build the lifestyle that I have dreamed about since college. So that's what I'm doing. I’ve quit my job and bought a one-way ticket to Medellín, Colombia. No more excuses. Life is short. The perfect time is right fucking now. since College it's been my dream to run my own online business from anywhere in the world and the reason for that was simple I wanted to be able to live a lifestyle that allows me to spend time doing the things that I love most uh I just feel that working in a desk job that doesn't fulfill us
at the end of the day uh it just doesn't make sense our lives are just way too short for that um so over the summer I started a business uh with my business partner a digital marketing agency and uh while we did book a few clients um I ended up making the decision to to break up the
partnership and shut down the business in January um I ended up losing several thousand dollars in the process um and by all definitions of the word uh it was a failure um but i' I learned so much valuable uh information and I and I came away from this experience with so much added Clarity um that I know
will allow me to become much more successful in the future and the main takeaway from this experience was that I need to stop looking outside uh to other other people other other courses or other videos or blog posts whatever um I need to look in the in the mirror and understand that if I want to achieve the
lifestyle uh that I've set for myself um I need to make it happen so um while I was uh working to grow this business uh I was also working full-time and I was having a bit of a rough time because while my co-workers was great the opportunity was great uh the work that I was doing just just
simply didn't fulfill me and I wasn't passionate about it um on top of that in the last year uh I lost a few people very close to me uh I lost my grandpa um I lost a a role model of mine who who inspired me to start my website um and also my brother he lost several friends
under the age of 20 years old uh to tragic accidents and the point of all this is that we are all on a timeline every single one of us whether we act like it or not and and these these experiences just again provided me with so much Clarity and perspective uh about what I'm doing as a 24y
old right now in my life so again I was working in a job that that I didn't love and so I started thinking about my options uh option one uh which my parents absolutely uh gave the thumbs up to was look at other jobs and and you know apply for that and move over to another company um
and you know I I applied for a few jobs I scouted around the little bit but at the end of the day I knew that that was just a cop out that was just a way for me to delay doing what it was that I really wanted to do and and it just I knew that if I
were to take another role and to take another job no matter really what it was I knew that I I wouldn't be deeply fulfilled at the end of the day because of these goals that I had set for myself prior um so option two was um quit my job and build the the dream lifestyle that I've been
wanting to achieve for so long um so so that's what I'll be doing uh I've bought a one-way ticket to medine Columbia um and I will be moving there uh April 12th um to to kind of wrap this all up uh you know our lives are are way too short um there's never going to be a perfect
moment to take Massive Action um so just stop making excuses and take action
Keep going
