for those types of people who are like okay Shawn I don't know what I want to do with my life how can I figure it out you know something that a lot of 20-somethings have on their mind is you know I don't know what the hell I want to do with my life and and they're kind of
on a constant search to figure that out and and for those types of people I mean I know that's that's kind of a big question but I think it kind of I think you kind of somewhat already answered that with your last response but you know for those types of people who are like okay Shawn I don't
know what I want to do with my life how can I figure it out so this might sound kind of weird but the advice that I usually give for people to ask that question as I tell them to sort of blog because when when I was like in 2009 I knew okay I wanted to run a business
I knew I wanted to travel but I had no idea how I was gonna get there I had no idea what it looked like I had no idea that this idea like a location independent business was a thing and what I really wanted and when I started the blog the archives May of 2009 June August 2009 I
haven't deleted any of those posts and you can see just how clueless I was about what I wanted and I'm literally I'm writing about the best happy hours in Portland I'm writing about the benefits of daydreaming I'm talking about like you know old travel stories like I'm writing about all this random stuff trying to figure out what
it is I wanted to write about trying to figure out what it was that I was most interested in and I think when you force yourself to go through that process where it's like you say you know what I'm gonna write two posts a week even if it's just for yourself you don't even have to make it
public I dunno write two posts a week about whatever you know I get excited about and if you do that for like three months four months five months you'll start to see patterns and you'll start to find that there's certain things you like writing about more than others there's certain things they kind of come to your mind
more naturally there's certain things you like thinking about and excite you so I think that's a great great starting point I think there's also you know you need to surround yourself with different types of people so there's the you know the saying that you are the sum of the five people you spend the most amount of time
with and if you want to be an entrepreneur you should spend your time around entrepreneurs and things like that but at the other time the same token you should spend time with you know people that are different than you and doing a lot of different things and in different industries and by exposing yourself to all of these
different types of people you kind of cert realize and say oh I resonate way more with this group or you know when I go to the rock climbing gym when I talk to these guys like they're speaking my language I'm you know I'm totally into that so I think between writing and being introspective about it and then
meeting different types of people and being like you know a little more extroverted about it you know those are the if you do those things in tandem over a course of a couple months you'll really start to eat a clearer picture of what's most important what you like what excites you itself [Music]
