About this video
I'm back in Brooklyn and it's great to be back. Even though I just had to drop $16 for a six-pack the other night (CORONA LIGHTS, WTF BRO), I'm still very grateful to be in this amazing city, living my dream and working for myself. Things are going really well, too. As I mentioned in my July review (http://bit.ly/0816DH) I ended up making more $$$ working for myself, than I did at my previous job. This of course was a massive win, and something I'm very proud of... However, as my success with my different projects continues to grow, I have been making a conscious effort to take a step back and appreciate my progress and both the big / small wins I encounter along the way. Two pieces of advice have been at the front of my mind when thinking about this... Brett McKay of The Art of Manliness: "Achieving goals is a lot more underwhelming than you think they’ll be. Quit thinking you’ll be happy once you’ve achieved them. Enjoy the process. " Shawn Achor, bestselling author & leading happiness researcher: "I wish I had known that success would not lead to happiness, but happiness would lead to greater success... So my advice is seek real happiness (not just pleasure) first, and your chances of success rise dramatically." I love these quotes because they show the need to enjoy the process and use that as a source of happiness, which in turn leads to success. I'm doing my best to keep this advice in mind and shape my mindset accordingly. Now that I'm living my dream, I need to continually show my gratitude for that, and for the progress I've made. If you don't take a minute out of your day to be grateful for what you've accomplished, you're missing out on a huge source of motivation and well-being. ---- Thanks for watching. I'm back in New York where six packs of coronal lights are $16 so I am back in Brooklyn and it is awesome to be back I am definitely in New York when I say that I mean that I definitely bought a $16 sixpack of Corona lights uh last weekend Corona lights $16 back in New York it's great
to be back um I put up this awesome map on the wall it's pretty cool I thought my my buddy in in Colombia he had a similar map in his bedroom and I totally jacked his style so uh thank you Colin for the inspiration anyways I'm back and um as you may or may not have read I
just published July's monthly review July was huge um I'm very proud to say that I ended up making more money last month working for myself than I did at my previous salary job so that was a massive massive win and it couldn't have come at a better time because again six packs of coronal lights are $16 so
you know things are going well momentum's picking up um I'm getting more web design work and different hunger obviously growing and as these both of these things kind of continue to grow and and continue to achieve more and more success something that has continually been at the front of my mind is the advice that I received from
Shan acre as well as Brett McKay Brett McKay he is the founder of The Art of Manliness Brett's advice is that achieving our goals is going to be a lot more underwhelming than we think it will be and he advises us to stop thinking that we'll be happy once we achieve our goals Shan acr's advice which is
very similar says that we need to stop thinking that once we achieve success we'll be happy instead we need to use happiness and and find happiness first as a way to get to success success because when the brain is operating from a place of positivity our performance increases drastically and that's something that Sean AER has devoted his
life to and he's multiple New York Times best-selling author about these topics and so these two pieces of advice are very very similar and they're both something that I have to continually remind myself of as I continue to grow as I continue to achieve these successes because if if I don't take a minute out of my day
to be thank and be grateful for the things that I've accomplished and the things I'm working towards then it's just not going to happen this was something that I shared with you guys back when I was in Colombia um I ended up getting two clients overnight so I went from zero to two clients overnight and this was
at a point where as you saw on the graph um it was at a point where I was considering creating a Kickstarter to fund my way home but not quite but I was hungry for work I was trying to figure things out and overnight I ended up getting two clients but all I did was just kind of
shrugged it off and and went on to the next thing because I was so caught up in more more more more more and I didn't take that minute out of my day to appreciate what I had done as I continue to make progress with you know different hunger and whatever else I'm working on I need to continually
remind myself to be thankful be grateful for this process for this journey that I'm on ah ah ah ah ah ah
Keep going
